There is likely to be an update on Monday, but while we wait, there are two questions that readers might be able to answer.

First question:
Can anyone say anything about this picture:

Picture which needs some comments...
The picture was taken at Broadway, on station road, looking towards Evesham.

Note that:
The signal box is there (it came a bit after opening)
The road is not made up
The market building (today's garage) isn't there yet - when did that appear?
Unknown tank engine on the bridge - can anyone identify the type?
Which would be the master of the hunt? (the man with the top hat?) We believe that the contractor Walter Scott became master of the Broadway hunt, so he may be in the photograph.

Can the picture be dated, approximately, based on the above?

Any other information / comments?

Has anyone a better version of this picture? (a scan from a blurry photograph)

Second question:

Who knows when the big bridge strike in 1975 took place, or can say more about it?

Thanks for your collective knowledge and help!

  1. Looks to be a 2021 'Buffalo' class saddle tank on the bridge. They were later rebuilt as pannier tanks in the late 1920s. See ; http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/uploads/monthly_06_2012/blogentry-5869-0-90094100-1339075329.jpg

  2. Thank you for your contribution. The picture of the engine is a great one !
We may possibly have found also a larger print of the picture, that used to hang above a doorway in Broadway. Watch this space!
